listen to david georgievski ahead of the Grand Final
Newcastle Jets defender Daniel Georgievski believes the “base” for a successful team was always at the club despite finishing bottom last season.
Georgievski told FNR_Football Nation Radio he could tell there was “something special” about the Jets when he signed for the club in March last season.
While the Jets finished the season with seven consecutive losses, Georgievski says the club’s smart recruitment alongside the foundations built formed the perfect combination for success.
“The base was there, you could see Newcastle was dying for something better while keeping their initial base,” Georgievski said.
Georgievski credits head coach Ernie Merrick and CEO Lawrie McKinna for bringing a positive mindset and encouraging players to “have fun and not overthink” matches or results.
“Everything just made sense…the mentality Ernie brought was to just enjoy ourselves and take our chances,
“The majority of it has to do with Ernie and Lawire, they made the environment that much more liveable
and exciting.” Georgievski said.
It was only a year ago when Georgievski lined up for Melbourne Victory in the Grand Final and now has the chance to beat them for the Championship.
“Previous experiences have taught me to really have fun and not overthink it,” Georgievski said.
