listen to what shocked bonita mersiades most during the bidding process
Former FFA head of corporate affairs Bonita Mersiades says the behaviour of the consultants shocked her the most during the 2022 FIFA World Cup bidding process.
Mersiades revealed to Michael Zappone and Tony Pignata on FNR_Football Nation Radio’s Football Bosses which will air tonight at 8pm, the FFA paid the three consultants a third of the bid money.
“We [FFA] ran a reputational risk by having those consultants engaged in our bid,” Mersiades said.
Mersiades says the FFA were “misled by the consultants” who she believes were “not going to deliver what they were promising.”
It is also revealed on FNR_Football Nation Radio’s Football Bosses Sepp Blatter told Mersiades in 2009 Australia’s bid was never going to win.
“When you’ve got Blatter saying to me that ‘you’re never ever going to win’ and when we were told a short time into the process we should have taken note, especially when using tax payers’ money,” Mersiades said.
Mersiades admits the FFA were naïve, believing they had secured seven votes.
Mersiades is about to launch her new book Whatever it takes which reveals the inside story of the 2022 FIFA World Cup bid.
Football Bosses airs every Wednesday from 8pm (AEDT) hosted by Michael Zappone and Tony Pignata on FNR_Football Nation Radio.
