Manager of Football Strategy and Special Projects Gary Cole believes football federations have to “get better” at cooperating with governments to achieve outcomes.
While Cole says the World Game facilities fund announced yesterday by Minister of Sport the Hon. John Eren MP is an “early goal”, he believes cooperation with governments will be pivotal in improving the game further.
“Governments get really focused in what their outcomes are and a very wise man told me ‘if you want money from governments then help them fix a problem’,” Cole said.
Cole told FNR_Football Nation Radio this morning instead of football stakeholders “banging on tables” asking the government for more money, the game must show how beneficial it can be towards helping governments achieve outcomes.
“We need to [bang on tables] but through our participation numbers and through our commitment to help them solve problems,
“We have to get better at working with state and local governments,” Cole said.
The World Game facilities fund will allow clubs and organisations to apply for financial support of up to $250,000 towards new projects such as the construction of unisex toilets.
“It provides more opportunities for boys and girls to play and that’s really what this is all about,” Cole said.
Calcio Café airs daily from 7am (AEDT) hosted by Carlos Alberto Diego on FNR_Football Nation Radio.
