lISTEN TO RON SMITH SHARE HIS VIEWS ON THE JANUARY TRANSFER WINDOW
Former Australian national team technical analyst Ron Smith believes there should be a limit on how much clubs spend over the January transfer window.
Speaking on FNR_Football Nation Radio’s ‘The Winning Coach’ program yesterday, the former Perth Glory manager emphasised how the significant spending during the transfer period has exacerbated the divide between the bigger and smaller clubs, especially in the Premier League.
"Most clubs have got no chance in competing with the amount of money that is spent compared with the big clubs," Smith said.
Having worked as head of the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS), Smith believes clubs in contemporary times sign solutions as opposed to investing in the development of their players.
“When clubs develop decent players the big clubs always sign them, because they can," Smith said.
The Winning Coach airs every Tuesday at 6pm (AEDT) with Chris Appleford on FNR_Football Nation Radio.
