Nicki Bowman from Women Onside believes one of the biggest issues in the game is a “lack of female representation” at a board level.
Women Onside was formed following the disbandment of the FFA Congress last year with the group wanting to “see more women in leadership positions in the game.”
Ms Bowman, who is a board member of Football South-Coast, told FNR_Football Nation Radio it was “extraordinarily disappointing” not see any female representation on the congress working group which according to Ms Bowen was “specifically called out by FIFA.”
“[FIFA] didn’t unfortunately mandate there be females on the Congress Review working group but made it very clear they expect to see female representation on the working group,” Ms Bowman said.
Women Onside did not apply for a seat on the working group due to not being a direct stakeholder but instead proposed there be female representation on the table.
In addition to the congress, Ms Bowman believes this to be an issue at all tiers of football and encourages females to nominate for such leadership positions.
“We must encourage females to nominate...there has to be a proactive process of identifying females and getting them on to the ballot paper,” Ms Bowman said.
