listen to daniel allsopp speak about his time in the a-league and in qatar
Danny Allsopp says playing in the A-League was the “change [he] needed” to reinvigorate his career yesterday on FNR_Football Nation Radio’s Aussies Abroad.
Allsopp was recruited as part of Melbourne Victory’s inaugural team from Hull City where he scored 22 goals in 64 appearances.
Former Melbourne Victory manager Ernie Merrick was pivotal in recruiting Allsopp, emphasising the many opportunities for success at Melbourne Victory and in the A-league.
“I received a bit of a culture shock returning home after seven years but in hindsight it was a good decision,” Allsopp said.
Allsopp told Chris Appleford on Aussies Abroad he felt his career was at a crossroads and in need of a change.
Allsopp scored 36 goals in 89 appearances for Melbourne Victory over four seasons before moving to Qatar after catching the eye of Al-Rayyan SC.
“It was a bit out of left field,” Allsopp said.
Despite returning to the Victory Allsopp says he reflects on his time in Qatar positively, proud he experienced life and football in the Middle East.
Aussies Abroad airs every Tuesday at 8pm (AEDT) with Chris Appleford on FNR_Football Nation Radio
