listen to luke wilkshire on the preview show
Newly signed Wollongong defender Luke Wilkshire believes the “timing was right” for a return to one of his junior clubs.
Wilkshire made his debut for Wollongong in last week’s 5-1 loss to Sydney Olympic after only recently finishing with Sydney FC in the A-League.
Despite the short turnaround Wilkshire says moving on from disappointing losses is all part of the journey.
“You have to [move on] that’s football moving from one league to another and facing new challenges and opportunities,” Wilkshire said.
Wilkshire told FNR_Football Nation Radio he is determined to help the club “in any way possible” in their future ambitions both on and off the field.
“It’s not just about these 11 or 12 games in the NPL but it’s about the bigger picture,” Wilkshire said.
Wilkshire believes the “region is crying out for an A-League team” and says the club’s ambitions to be part of the expanded A-League contributed to his decision in signing.
“The club has a lot of history and being back here you can see how much football means to the people,”
Wilkshire has also made 80 appearances for the Socceroos.
The Preview Show airs every Friday from 3PM (AEST) hosted by Athos Sirianos and Nick D’Urbano on FNR_Football Nation Radio.
