listen to simon hill share his thoughts on VAR
Fox Sports commentator Simon Hill says the VAR malfunction during the Grand Final “underlines why the VAR is not for our game.”
Hill believes the technology takes “all the spontaneity and joy out of football” and says it is “extraordinary” how the technology experienced a software failure.
“You almost become blasé about it and say ‘oh well there’s another one that we’ll be talking about this week’,
“It’s a human game and an emotional game.” Hill said.
Hill believes the finals series was a “breath of fresh air” due to it providing fans with greater incentives to attend matches.
“It shows fans are still connected to their club, I think players respond when fans are inside the stadium and there’s something on the line,” Hill said.
In relation to the state of the game, Hill believes the congress issue is the “administrative constipation” which is holding the game back off the field.
“We’ve wasted so much time with in-fighting and factionalism that the game has stood still off the pitch,” Hill said.
The Congress working party has until 31 July, 2018 to make their recommendations as to the make up of the congress.
The election for the new FFA board will take place in November, 2018.
