Former Sheffield United defender Doug Hodgson says he is disappointed to not have been given an opportunity for Australia, despite being one the highest ranked defenders in England.
Hodgson made 30 appearances for Sheffield United in England’s first division where he won a Player of the Month award but says not being given a chance for Australia “eat’s [him] up.”
“I was the highest ranked centre-half in the world. I’m not saying I should have played for Australia, but I wanted that opportunity,” Hodgson said.
In his interview with George Donikian and George Cotsanis on FNR_Football Nation Radio’s The Pioneers, Hodgson opened up about how an accumulation of injuries over his career impacted on him personally.
“I can talk about other people’s emotions, depression or anxiety but I can’t talk about my own and I do have it,” Hodgson said.
Hodgson also revealed he has been travelling to London annually for the last 17 years to acquire treatment for injuries.
“I’d hate to imagine what I’ve paid in medical bills,” Hodgson said.
The Pioneers airs every Thursday from 7pm (AEDT) hosted by George Donikian and George Cotsanis on FNR_Football Nation Radio.
