LISTEN TO HOW JACKSON IRVINE BURST ON TO THE SCENE AT BURTON ALBION LAST SEASON.
Socceroo Jackson Irvine said he was just as surprised as everyone else when he was named Burton Albion’s leading goal scorer playing as a defensive midfielder.
Irvine, traditionally a defensive midfielder, scored ten times in 42 appearances for Burton Albion last season where he was also named Player of the season.
Irvine emphasised how much freedom he had playing in the 3-5-2 set up implemented by manager Nigel Clough that season.
“Having the two strikers in front of me keep the opposing centre halves busy allowed me to ghost in and make late runs into the box, which is how I scored most of my goals,” Irvine said.
Irvine made the move to Hull City in August where he has since made 17 appearances.
Jackson Irvine joined Aussies Abroad which airs Tuesday from 8pm (AEDT) on FNR_Football Nation Radio hosted by Chris Appleford
