LISTEN TO VINCE GRELLA TALK ABOUT AUSTRALIAN YOUTH HERE
Former Socceroo Vince Grella believes it is the mindset of Australian youth players which lets them down when they move overseas.
Grella, now a player agent, spoke to Michael Zappone and Tony Pignata on FNR_Football Nation Radio’s Football Bosses about the adversities players face when looking to break into a squad overseas.
While Grella believes opportunities for youth to develop in the A-league are currently limited, he says players must be prepared to earn their place in a team if they choose to go overseas.
“The competition for places in Europe is getting more and more difficult by the minute,” Grella said.
Grella also believes many players are not willing to earn their opportunity overseas, instead opting to move when not in the squad.
“The question [the players] should be asking is, do [they] deserve game time,” Grella said.
Vince Grella is currently a player agent living in Italy.
Football Bosses airs every Wednesday from 8pm with Tony Pignata and Michael Zappone on FNR_Football Nation Radio.
